Longhorn Beetle

WOW! That's about all I can still say when I think of this beetle that we found in the yard today.  By we I mean Rory and I.  We were both terribly excited but, I'm sure, for totally different reasons.  I saved the beetle from certain death and shot a few pics.  I'm still trying to identify, but, I think it's Stenocorus cursor.  The antennae were at least 7 inches across I'm guessing a little more closer to 8.  The body probably 3 inches long.  AMAZING!

  1. I think it was an advance guard for an alien race trying to take over the world--it was that nutty. But Rory probably scared it enough to stop the invasion.

  2. Thanks, Rory!

That bug is SOMETHING ELSE. I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up in your dreams the next night or two.

  3. Hey! (Lance from Discovery Park) I found this species, which yours could be, but at least we know the Family!

    Animalia +

    Coleoptera +
    Cerambycidae +
    Monochamus +
    Monochamus galloprovincialis (Olivier, 1795)
Commonly called a pine sawyer. Yours is definitely a Cerambycid (Longhorn wood burrowing beetles).
